New benchtop spectrophotometer for colour measurement
Convenient sample handling and the avoidance of contamination in the device have prompted a colour measuring device manufacturer to develop a spectrophotometer in which the measurement is not carried out in the device but outside.
The benchtop spectrophotometer ColorTube from ColorLite, Katlenburg-Lindau, is in its basic configuration a two-channel system that is suitable for both reflectance and transmittance measurement. For the measurement of transparent samples, the spectrophotometer is optionally equipped with a third measuring channel. For this purpose, an additional measuring attachment is mounted on the outside of the device. In contrast to conventional colour measuring devices, the transmission measurement is not carried out inside the device, but outside in front of the sphere opening. Thanks to this solution, the inside of the device is not contaminated by sample material. There is no need for time-consuming and costly cleaning for the user, the company explains.
The core of the measuring system is a 140 mm integrating sphere and two spectrometers for the sample and reference channels. The repeatability is ΔE 0.01 CIELab. The integrated gloss trap enables measurements with (SCI) and without gloss exclusion (SCE).
Temperature in view
The colour of the sample material is strongly temperature-dependent. Neglecting this fact leads to incorrect measurements. Therefore, the instrument is optionally available with an integrated infrared thermometer, which closes a large gap in the measurement methodology of colours. Thus, colour deviations due to the thermochromic behaviour of the samples can be precisely investigated and evaluated.
Versatile applications
The manufacturer pays special attention to user-friendliness and flexible application possibilities. The aim was to be able to measure as wide a variety of samples as possible with just one measuring system that is as easy to operate as possible.
